on February 13, 2013 - 10:47pm

February has arrived!  And as always, Valentines’ Day comes with it bringing along love and romance.

“Geez, well you don’t have to dump it on us.” – Romance Removal Crew

And when we think of romance we immediately think of roses and treats and chocolates, right?  But why?

A tea by any other name…

According to the Greeks, the rose is the “king of flowers” and it first appearred with the birth of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.

The Reuben: A Classic

on February 10, 2013 - 12:27pm

No one loves a classic sandwich more than we do here at Ula Cafe.

"Make it again, Sam.  For old times’ sake.”

One such example is the Reuben Sandwich.  In looking to put our own spin on it, we did a little research into the invention of such a delicious creation.  Apparently there is somewhat of a dispute concerning the origin of the Reuben.  Little did we know that it would come down to the ol’ Omaha/Manhattan feud.

Omaha vs. Manhattan: as old as time itself.

One account as told by the people of Omaha (for our purposes we’ll say the guy on the right) claim that a

Need a Plus One? Bring Ula home with you for the holidays!!!

on November 6, 2012 - 2:08pm

The holidays are already around the corner and you know what that means: holiday dinners and family.  As warming as that is to many of us, with it comes the uncertainty of who’s gonna show up:

…or what they’re going to bring:

Can't go wrong with a classic.

Back in the days of old when women always wore aprons and men wore buckles on their hats instead of their belts (silly pilgrims), families

Our Take on a Classic

on October 20, 2012 - 2:23pm

Salty roasted peanuts and the sweetness of concord grapes, while delicious on their own,  form a perfect union as peanut butter and jelly.  It's a classic which has been hitting boxed lunches since the beginning of boxed lunches. But we never settle for the same old thing here, oh no.

It wasn't long after we found ourselves with an abundance of concord grapes that we found ourselves with our own incredible grape jelly.  First you take the grapes and you squish em, you squish em...

We put the homemade concord grape jelly and Teddie peanut butter in our buttery, flaky pie dough and made

Pumpkin Possibilities - BLFF 2012

on October 16, 2012 - 8:25pm

Thank you to every one who came to the demo and stopped by our table at the Boston Local Food Festival last Sunday! We were so happy to share all of our macarons with you.  We had so much fun talking to new and familiar faces. A couple of us even got away from the tent to talk to some of the other great businesses at the festival.

A real highlight for me was giving a demo I affectionately named “Pumpkin Possibilities”. Fall is our power season at the café because we love taking advantage of the warm cozy feeling we get when baking with all of the available local fall produce.
